Two entries of ÿÈÕ´óÈüÍøÖ·Ê×Ò³½øÈë – Rosario Campus got the second and third places under the Likha Award category in the 2021 Regional Invention Contest and Exhibits (RICE) sponsored by the Technology Application and Promotion Institute of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-TAPI).

The Fish Smoking Machine of Engr. Gee Jay C. Bartolome, Ms. Vennus Florence N. Vicedo, Mr. John Patrick D. Buco, and Dr. Camilo A. Polinga was adjudged second outstanding government-funded creative research while GoTrace Contact Tracing Application of Ms. Mary Anne E. Ignacio, Engr. Gee Jay C. Bartolome, Mr. John Patrick D. Buco, and Mr. Rhuzel Leinster Dean J. Julian got third place.

According to the DOST-TAPI website, RICE gives due recognition to the outstanding invention through theÌýTuklasÌýAward, outstanding utility model through theÌýUnladÌýAward, outstanding industrial design through theÌýBanghayÌýAward, outstanding creative research through theÌýLikhaÌýAward, and outstanding student creative research for high school and college students through theÌýSibolÌýAward.Ìý

The competition was open to both public and private inventors and researchers in the region. Contestants underwent the qualifying round judged by highly competent professionals comprising the panel of judges. Five qualifiers moved forward to the final round where they had the chance to present and demonstrate their entries before the panel of judges. The finalists were judged according to the set criteria which include novelty, commercial viability, stage of development and cost, unique value proposition, and scientific and technical merits, among others.

The virtual awarding ceremony was held on 29 September 2021.
